Darius Cooper: The Eagles’ Hidden Gem of Camp
Every summer at Eagles camp, there’s one player who jumps out. Not always the big name. Not always the draft pick. Sometimes it’s the guy nobody’s talking about who just looks the part. This year, that’s Darius Cooper.

Why Darius Cooper Stands Out
Forget the hype and draft status. The first time I saw Cooper, he straight up passed the eye test.
• He’s big.
• He’s strong.
• When the ball comes his way, he makes plays. Period.
He’s undrafted out of Tarleton State, extremely raw, and he’s still getting comfortable in a traditional NFL huddle (they barely used them in college). None of that has stopped him from flashing all camp.
The College Production
Don’t let the small‑school label fool you. At Tarleton State, Cooper finished second in all of NCAA Division I football in receiving yards. It’s not Alabama or Ohio State — but numbers like that don’t happen by accident. The kid can play.
Where He Fits in Philly
The Eagles are set at wide receiver with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith — we all know that. But if A.J.’s hamstring becomes a thing or injuries pile up during the grind, you need outside depth.
That’s where Cooper fits. He’s got the frame, strength, and skill set to be the next man up on the boundary. He’s not ready to start today, but he’s worth keeping around and developing.
My Take
The Eagles would be flat‑out foolish to let this guy go.
Every camp has a darling, sure. But this isn’t just hype:
• Cooper passes the eye test.
• He’s produced at the college level.
• He’s shown up every time he’s gotten a chance in camp.
I don’t know what his ceiling is yet — but I know he belongs.
